跟某某人說話, 只能用speak to, 而不能用speak with。對嗎?

問：我們的英語老師告訴我們: 要想表達“跟… …說話”的意思, 只能用speak to , 而不能用speak with。是這樣嗎?

答：speak to 與speak with 都可表達“跟… …說話”、“ 跟… …談話”的意思, 只是前者用得更多一些。下面兩道託福題可以證明這一點:

1. Although I have often met him and spoke with him. I am not yet used to his manner. (TOEFL)
2. “How can Mary get her money back?” “I advised ________ to the manager.”
   A. her speak
   B. her to speak
   C. that she speaks
   D. a speech by her

但是, 應當記住: speak to 還有單獨的用法: 對… …發表講話; 就… …發語意見:

1. An orator spoke to a crowd.一位演說家向群眾發表了講話。
2. Would any committee member care to speak to the question? 有哪位委員想就這個問題發語意見嗎?
