on foot 作“步行”解:

  1. They drove, but we came on foot. 他們是開車來的, 而我們是步行來的。
  2. My bicycle is broken, so I’ll have to go on foot. 我的自汽車壞了, 所以不得不步行。

此外, on foot 還作“在籌畫之中”、“ (計畫) 在進行”解:

  1. The reporter said that a civil rights demonstration was on foot. 記者報導說正在計畫舉行一次民權示威遊行。
  2. A plan’s on foot to invite the Minister of Health to visit our hospital. 邀請衛生部長來訪問我們醫院的計畫正在著手進行。

on one’s feet 則作“站著”、“站起來”、“ 痊癒”、“經濟獨立”解:

  1. A dentist is no his feet all day. 牙科醫生整天站著。
  2. The Minister was on his feet at once to answer the charge. 部長立即站了起來, 答覆那個指控。
  3. The medicine will soon have you on your feet again. 這種藥很快就會使你復原的。
  4. She is on her feet. 她在經濟上是獨立的。
  5. After his wife’s death ti took him two years to get back on his feet. 妻子死後兩年, 他才振作起來。
