no longer 用法：超過10個例句解釋

no longer 用法1：

問：Excuse me, is this Mr. Brown’s office?
I’m sorry, but Mr Brown _______ works here. He left about three weeks ago.
A. not now
B. no more
C. not still
D. no longer
答案為D(no longer)。no more與no longer 用法同義，為什麽不能選B呢？

答：no longer 用法與 no more都作“不再”、“也不再”(for no further period of time)解。有的英語參考書用no longer與no more的語意不同來解答上題道，這是不正確的。上道題之所以只能選D，而不能選B，僅僅因為no longer 用法與no more在句中的位置不同。no more一般位於句尾或句首，而no longer則可用於一般動詞之前，助動詞或連接動詞之後，或者位於句尾：

1. I see him no more. 我再也見不到他了。
2. He still smoked, but he drank no more. 他還在吸烟，但是不再喝酒了/他煙還在抽，酒已經不喝了。
3. I bore the pain till I could bear it no more and had to ask for another injection. 我忍受著疼痛，直到在野忍受不了時才不得不請求再注射一針。
4. He no longer bought books. 他不再買書了。
5. They no longer staying with us. 他們不再跟我們住再一起了。
6. He’s no longer at school. 他不再上學了。
7. I see him no longer. 我不能看到他了。

no longer 用法2：

問：no more, no longer 與 not anymore not any longer有何區別？

答：no more, no longer 用法主要用於正式語體：

1. That day we read no more. 那天我們沒再閲讀。
2. Natural magnets are no longer used in compasses. 指南針已不再使用天然磁鐵了。
3. When you break up a molecule of water, you no longer have water at all. 當你把水分子分解後，你就不再有水了。

其次，anymore, any longer在否定句子中要用在動詞的後面。而no more和no longer 用法的位置則比較靈活：

1. The shore was no longer in sight. 海岸不再看的見了。
2. He could no longer be trusted and they had to let him go. 他不再受到信任，因此他麽解雇了他。
3. The glory of youth will be yours no longer. 青年的榮譽不再屬於你們。
