介係詞片語in the bathroom 是作heard 的地方副詞還是作a noise 的形容詞呢?

答：就孤立的句子來看, 這個句子是有歧義的。既可以理解為:“我在洗澡間裡聽見了響聲。”(I was in the bathroom.), 也可以理解為:“我聽見了洗澡間裡的響聲。”(The noise was in the bathroom.)

問：I still haven’t heard from her. (Longman English Grammar)
[原譯] 我還是沒有聽到她的消息。(《朗文英語文法》, 外研社, p.249)
請問譯文是否準確?

答：後面加了from或of的hear 用法有不同意思, hear from 原意是:“收到……的信(電報等)”, 而不是“聽到……的消息”。hear of 才是“聽到……的消息”:

1. I will do nothing further until I hear from you.
   不得到你的回音, 我不會往下幹。
2. She hasn’t heard of her husband’s death.
   她還沒有聽到丈夫去世的消息。
3. We all rejoiced to hear of your success.
   聽到你獲得成功的消息, 我們大家都很高興。

問：I will not hear of your going. 查辭典, hear of 意為“聽人說到”、“聽到……的消息”。
但我無論如何也無法譯出上面的句子。請指教。

答：will (would, could) not hear of 是一個固定的hear 用法, 意為“不同意”、“拒絕考慮”、“不允許”:

1. I will not hear of you making a trip to that place.
   我絕不同意你到那個地方去旅遊。
2. I want to go to the show tonight, but I know my mother will not hear of it.
   我想今晚去看演出, 但我知道媽媽絕不會讓我去。
